Custard Cream Casts!

Some more experiments with the melting pot and enamel powders. It was really tricky to pour the right amount into the jewellery finding and it sometimes over flowed! However I used a heat gun to warm the plastic back up and away from the edges of the finding.

Experimenting with a melting pot and enamel powders to make jewellery. I used a silicone mold of a cameo to create these pieces. I also used two tone enamel powders to highlight details on the cameo.

This piece will illustrate what is known about the life of Lily M Roberts though the creation of a mixed media wall hanging with an emphasis on beading and embroidery.

The work will depict the facts as well as speculate other outcomes as a kind of ‘working map’ of thoughts and conclusions about what Lily and her family experienced. The outcome will take on the spirit of this young child, presenting a naive and playful story yet created using a variety of techniques as well as a critical process of design.

A variety of stitches will be seen as well as some elements of beading created using a bead loom. The materials selected for the work will be of a high standard with an absence of any synthetic material or fibre so it may be in keeping with the materials used by that of a Draper. Tonally the hanging will aim to blend with the interior yet express a definite individuality amongst the other features of the building. The back ground of the handing will be mostly a soft white with colours added through embellishment.

Overall the work will frame the freeness and vividity of Lily’s youth and haziness of her existence set against the permanence of a structure that helped formed her.

I am begining a textiles installation piece for a home in London. My work along with other designers and artists in collaboration with Patrick Lewis Architects will narrate the story of the families that lived there as well as create emotive and beautiful points of interest around the home.

The piece I am working on titled ‘Lilly’ named after a young girl who lived in the house in the 1890s will explore her history and capture her story as a beaded response that will hang in the stair area of the home.
